Hello, i just built a new PC I ordered the parts online, but at first I ordered the wrong mobo.
I got a ASRock H110M-DGS for a Pentium Gold G5400, turns out they are not compatible, I only found out after building it and it wouldn't post, only spin the fan for 1-2 seconds.
I then ordered a new MOBO, a Gigabyte H310M - M.2, used the same brand new Pentium Gold, this time it did boot, but with 5 short beeps, according to Gigabyte's website, that is due to "CPU error"
Now, I don't know what else to try, it's a brand-new CPU and brand new MOBO, i tested all other components and they are working, I just don't have another 8th gen Intel to test...
I tried everything from the "won't boot" list here.
Only thing that comes to my mind is that the thermal paste got a little bit too spread by mounting and unmounting the box cooler several times, but it didn't get nowhere near the pins.
Also the CPU doesn't have pins to check if bent, and the MOBO is brand new but I also checked and there are no bent ones.
What can I do at this point? Could I have fried the CPU by inserting it into an unsupported socket? Because the fit is the same (1155), it just isn't recognized.
