I just bought a asus rt-88u router. plugged it in and it didnt work, so i returned it and bought a nighthawk x6 and had the same problem. i brought that router back and got the asus again knowing its not a router problem (or i have really bad luck).

I have a zhone modem model znid-gpon-2424-NA, when i plug the router in the green light on port ge1 (my internet port) goes out and no internet connection between router and the modem. when i plug my lap top into the modem the light comes on and works fine.

Id like to point out that when i plugged the nighthawk x6 in it worked fine (green light was on) and i connected to the internet right away. when i did the firmware update on the router the light on the modem went out again.

I did many power cycles doing both, just the modem, just the router, etc and nothing seems to work.

my isp runs a DHCP so there really shouldnt be any isp problems that im aware of.

ive tried flushing the dns, releasing ip and renewing it, nothing seems to work.

i can plug my old asus router in and it works just fine. is there something with these new high powered routers that my modem doesnt like or what? im stumped!

This is on router that is working asus rt-n56u

you are posting ipconfig results, this is not very helpful.

1. you need do the following. power off asus rt-ac88u
connect to asus rt-n56u with a cable, log into the routers web interface (open a web browser go to 192.168.1.1) review LAN and WAN settings, take screenshots or write it down on a piece of paper..

2. power off asus rt-n56u.
connect to asus rt-ac88u with a cable, log into the routers web interface (open a web browser go to 192.168.1.1) review LAN and WAN settings, make sure they match the settings of the old router, especially the WAN interface.
save settings, power cycle router, restart computer, enjoy internet

everything was the same on both routers WAN and LAN (both were default settings) the only thing that was different was the MTU and MRU had a number in it on the old router but i couldnt find even the option anywhere on the new one.

would there be any reason why the modem and new router dont see each other. on the main page of the new router is says to plug in the ethernet cord, i would think its the router WAN port but this is the 3rd router ive tried (2 asus and 1 nighthawk) same thing happened on all 3. light goes out on modem when connected to the high tech router then comes on when plugged into lower tech router and works. I asked my isp if if could be an issue with there modem but they say if i get net to computer and old router it should work on new one as well, which i dont disagree with. could the modem be holding onto the old router mac address to where it doesnt see new one? im way out of my league here any ideas or input would be much appreciated.

NOTE: i upgraded to new firmware on new router thinking that would help, it didnt. ASUS tech support had me use an older firmware but then the router stopped working completely so i put the new firmware back on. Same with the netgear x6 nighthawk, it worked when i first plugged it in, when i upgraded the firmware the light on modem went out and i was back to square 1.

UPDATE: I was messing around this morning and i connected the NEW router into the old router that connects to the internet and it connected after updating the ip. so how do i get it to connect to the modem?
