I'm trying to get an old ms-dos telix program to work. In
device mgr, it shows under modem, as being on com3, under
the ports, it only list com1 as a communication port.
When i click on advanced port settings and display all
ports it says com3 (in use) I moved the modem to a
different slot and it came up in com5. But the telix
software still won't open it under com1 thru' com8. It
does dial thru' hyperterm fine. I use this old program to
do my biz, it's all I've found that works for me. Help
please!

Your new modem is probably a software modem and the addresses it uses
are not recognized by your communications program. You either need a
newer version of the program or to get a hardware modem.
