Monitor acting a little weird?

Hey guys, so up until a few days ago I was using a DVI cable for my display. No problems whatsoever. A few days ago, my HDMI cable came in, and I switched that. For the past few days, my monitor has been acting a little strangely; something that wasn't happening with the DVI cable. My monitor is the Asus VS228H-P, and my GPU is the Zotac GTX 970 by the way.

So one of the things that the monitor has been doing is that during the most random times, the display goes completely black for about 2-3 seconds, and then goes back to what was on the screen. Very weird.

The other thing that happens is when the monitor goes to sleep, it doesn't wake up when I shake my mouse and spam on the keyboard. Also when the whole computer is off and the monitor is asleep and I start up the computer, the monitor doesn't wake up.

Both aren't horrible things, but they are increasingly annoying after each day passes haha. I tried to find some configuration settings to possibly fix it myself, but I didn't find anything. Again, this didn't happen when the DVI cable was in. Thanks for any info anyone may give me :)

Solution
Can't promise a fix, but can suggest one thing to check. I had sim problem on sleeping with DVI connection and switched to VGA. Helped for a short while only. Even though my monitor power light was blinking in sleep mode, turned out to have multiple capacitor failures. Replaced them and and all is good. I did not have the black out issue.
