monitor adapter cables

so i just bought a second monitor and my gpu only has 1 hdmi 1 display port and 1 dvi, i have my first monitor plugged in using my hdmi cable, thats not an issue, i have 1 more vga cable spare and would like to know if i would be able to have a dvi to vga on one end of the cable then a vga to hdmi on the other and still work. thanks.
