Question Monitor backlight issues

Hi, I tried searching around on the web but couldn't really find info about this so I thought I'd ask here.

My monitor functions fine after the PC boots up, an issue arises if the display turns off and on for any reason like due to inactivity or if I physically turn it off via the button on the panel after which most of the backlights stop working except for what seems like one. The monitor works completely fine if the display doesn't turn off due to reasons mentioned above.

If I physically fiddle with the display port behind the monitor then I can restore all the backlights, or if I restart my PC then the monitor is fine.

I also swapped the ends of the cable around which caused the monitor to flicker non stop until I unplugged the cable.

I also tried the same monitor on a different PC and it was doing the exact same thing.

I plan to get a new display cable in about 12 hours just thought I'd ask if anyone else has experience with this.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You might want to include a video of the issue in action as well as the make and model of your monitor.

You might want to see if using another cable helps resolve the issue.

Another thing you could do is try and reinstall your GPU drivers. What GPU are you working with?

Thanks for the welcome and the speedy response!

The monitor is a Asus ROG PG278Q, I can take a video of the issue but I also found an image online of what it looks like exactly, View: https://imgur.com/kMdEpCl
, as you can see only a small portion of the screen at the bottom is lit up.

The GPU I have is a Radeon 6800xt, could my drivers be at fault if the monitor is doing the same thing on another PC which was using a nvidia GPU? I can certainly try.

An update to the situation, I recreated the issue to see what had an impact on it, this time disconnecting and reconnecting or fiddling with the display port behind the monitor did nothing. However I did notice most of the backlights were still off when the display port was not connected, so I'm not sure how fiddling with it earlier fixed the issue.

This time I unplugged the monitor via the power cable as I was checking the power plug to see if it was connected properly, about a minute later I reconnected the power plug into the monitor and all the backlights were lit.

I'm awfully confused, now I'm thinking perhaps the power supply has gone bad? Or my monitor is dying, issue with the latter thought is once the backlights are lit they remain lit.
