Monitor Brightness Adjustment

I am having trouble trying to adjust the brightness level down on my Acer monitor. I cannot find any simple or decent instructions. I can manage to get the screen to pop up with the different level controls including brightness, but then any button I press at the bottom of the monitor makes it disappear from the screen. It is so frustrating! Is there a way to adjust it on the Windows 7 Control Panel perhaps?

There was an app called Screen Bright that use too work for such things.

Thank you for your help. I downloaded the program but when I went to try to use it it says "No compatible screen found".
