Hi,
my 3 year old 15" Sony Multiscan 100sx CRT has a refresh rate of 85Hz at 800x600. What will happen if I tell it to refresh at 100Hz when it can't do that? Will it burn out?

When I rule the world, Apple will only mean the fruit.

Setting the refresh rate higher than your monitor and/or video can handle is highly NOT recommended.

Probably, nothing much will happen.

It may well cope with the higher refresh, perhaps with a shrunken or off-center display. Or it may go blank and whistle at you.

Even if it dies, it won't be spectacular.
