I have a newly bought MSI Cyborg A13VEK, which has a 144hz display, and i also have an existing 165hz monitor with DP, HDMI, DVI-D ports. I used HDMI to connect to the monitor but the display of the monitor is limited only to 120hz. I am sure the HDMI cable is capable of 144hz as i also used that same cable from my previous PC and the same monitor in which 144hz is no problem.

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

= = = =

Include PSU: make, model, wattage, age, condition (original to build, new, refurbished, used)?

Disk drive(s): make, model, capacity, how full?

List all attached peripherals.

How is the monitor connected: iGPU (motherboard) or GPU?

If you right click and empty area of the desktop does a menu present with the choice "Show more options"?

Click "Show more options" and there should be another menu listing the GPU's Control Panel.

What is the resolution setting and refresh rate.

The MSI Cyborg A13VEK is a laptop equipped with an hdmi output, so he is likely using that.

I would set the display to be only on the monitor (not extended nor mirrored) and set the refresh rate to 144 Hz in the windows display settings. If nothing higher than 120 Hz shows up in the options, it's because something doesn't support it. What is the resolution of your monitor? The laptop is 1080p 144Hz but if your monitor is 1440p maybe the laptop just can't display that resolution at more than 120 Hz.
