Wanted to plug in my Xbox and soon a new build into my monitor, when I found out it doesn't have an HDMI port, only VGA (very observant of me, I know). My question being, if I were to use an HDMI male to VGA female (to plug into either a console or a computer). And then a regular VGA cable to connect that to the monitor, would I experience the negative effects of VGA? If so, is it worth getting a new monitor (this one is only a year or two old)? If I should get a new one, anyone know a good budget one? I'm thinking around 20"?

Thanks for your help and have a nice day!

Hdmi was up to 1600p/60 with 1.3 for quite some time. During that same version it was about 1080p/120 that dvi dl could do but hdmi couldn't. But other than those benefits, it doesn't matter. You don't have hdmi anyways so just use dvi.

Imagine this, me not being observant... yes, it does have DVI, I never actually looked at it the ports, only felt them, they're very similar to the touch 😉. I was reading some stuff and isn't DVI arguably better than HDMI? Thanks for the reply!

DVI is better than older versions of HDMI which capped out at 1080p 60Hz, it didn't offer higher resolutions than 1080p without reducing the refresh rate below 60Hz, and couldn't support 1080p resolution at refresh rates higher than 60Hz, both of which DVI could offer in its Dual Link configuration. Those disadvantages are gone with HDMI 2.0 which has been available since 2014.
