Do I need 2 980's or 2 980 Ti or 1 980 Ti

I mean 1 980 Ti is good for the monitor but if you have the money for 2, why not?

To get close to 144fps in new games @max settings you'll need two 980tis, if you want to make full use of the 144Hz.

There is no hardware released by now that will run this even close to 144fps.
SLI 980 tis will probably get you like around 60fps MAYBE if you max out all settings at 3 times 1440p.

Sadly scaling gets worse, the more cards you add. The second card is like 90-95% more performance in optimized games. The third one only adds like 40-50% of what the second card gave you and a fourth one sometimes even gets you less performance.

SLI 980tis should be able to run stuff at that resolution at 60fps most of the time, but there is sadly no way to get to stable 144fps on these kind of resolutions at the moment.

Maybe the next generation of GPUs will take care of that.

One 980TI should be enough if your going for 1080p, even that is overkill in my opinion for that res.
