Hi this is my first build and I'm stuck on which monitor to get. The max I'm able to pay is $250-300. My friend told me that I should get a TN panel as the price premium for ips is not worth it. If I do get a TN it wouldn't be a 120 or 144hz as they are really expensive here in NZ. What do you guys think? I will mostly be using my pc for gaming but I will also be watching movies and therefore might not neccesarily be infront of the monitor. What do you suggest? Thanks

Note: I jist found out that the Aoc G2460PQU 144hz monitor is availible here though it is at the top end of my price range.

One monitor that comes to my mind is the BenQ RL2455hm, it's available on newegg for about 198$. Shouldn't be too expensive where you stay either.
Its the official monitor used by ROG. It is 60HZ though which may be a problem for you given that you're in the market for 120Hz. But performance wise, from what I've seen, it is top notch. And has one of the lowest response times (1-2 ms) that I have ever seen in an LED monitor. It is full HD and has dynamic black levels so that it can increase black area brightness without disturbing the rest of the picture.
Given that it's used in competitions I'm quite sure it wont be bad, even the color representation is quite nice and punchy.
