Monitor isn't Detecting VGA

Just got a new pc, a cybertron, I've got everything plugged in, but my monitor (HP 2511x) isn't detecting the VGA cord that's plugged in. This happened with my old computer sometimes, but would eventually go away, but now it does seem to detect the signal no matter what I do. Should I just buy a new monitor? Considering this one over over 5 years old.

Which new Cybertron did you get?
Most new pc's do not support VGA these days and you would either need a new display or buy an active adapter.
