Monitor losing signal and random restarts! Help!

Hello,
A few weeks ago my computer (self built, see specs below) started to have some issues (I've the machine since 2 FEB). At completely unpredictable times during startup (after the windows 7 logo) the monitor would lose it's signal and occasionally restart from this point. It would also do this occasionally when bringing the computer out of sleep mode. In addition, once in a while upon waking the computer from sleep the video card fan would spin very very fast. Below I have also listed the attempts I have made to troubleshoot this issue, all of which have been met with no success.

Installed new video drivers. Completely erased all traces of video drivers, removed video card. Reinstalled video card and freshly installed new drivers. Opened the computer case and cleaned it, checked all connections regarding video and power, reseated RAM checked all fans to ensure that they work, no issues found. Finally I wiped my hard drive and did a fresh install. The problem still persists. What else can I do to resolve this issue? Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I've been thinking about that, but I've never done it before. I could be wrong, but isn't flashing/updating the BIOS risky? Don't I run the chance of ruining the mother board during that process?

Little update here, I described my problem to a local computer store and they are telling me that it is an issue with my PSU. That doesn't make sense to me...when I get past the problems I've been having (above) I can run graphically intense programs just fine. How is it the PSU...please help, I need to fix this thing before anything else goes wrong with it.

well, BIOS update is not recomended if your system running normally. refer to the motherboard manual on how to update BIOS.
I suggest to turn off sleep/wake up mode. about your PSU, i see no problem, its an 80 plus.

Sorry, never updated. I call to ASUS concluded that the main PCIe x16 slot has a short in it or some other fault. Don't really feel like sending the board back right now. Thanks for all the help, though!
