Monitor losing signal for a second

I've recently switched from VGA cable to a HDMI, I also changed the resolution from 1440x900 to 1600x900, and I keep getting short disconnects. My monitor loses the signal, and after a second or two it gets back on. It happens regardless of what I do, play a game or just surf the net. Is there any way to fix it?

Did you check if the cable contacts are clean and whether there are any bent/missing pins?

No, the cables are clean, with all pins

You know, there really could be more than one thing. I once had a similar problem that I thought I fixed by replacing the monitor cable and for a while it worked. It turns out it was the graphics card screw that was loose and it cause the card to wiggle in the PCI-E express slots, causing all manners of problems.

I've just played BF3 for half an hour, and I didn't have a single problem with the input. I'm also waiting for a new GPU to be delivered, hope it will solve all problems.

Yeah you probably wiggled it around to make a good contact between the components and you got it working for now.
