Monitor not receiving signal, GFX problem?

I just applied new thremal paste to my CPU and dusted out my stack as I could hear my computer puffing a little under load. I took everything off my mobo and got rid of all the dust.

After putting the cpu unit back together and on to the computer and switching on my monitor is not receiving any signal. I've tried the gfx card in two different ports on the mobo but no change. I think it's a graphics card problem because the fans start then top, typically running for no more than two seconds.

Any ideas?

Solution
apart from unplugging everything, rechecking every connector and try with another psu and possibly removing gpu and trying with the onboard one, no, very weird situation

normally is the ram not properly seated
most times when this happens is not the gpu, usually you didn't reseated properly ram in to the ram slots

or you forgot to connect the cpu power cable, the eatx 12v power cable, next to the cpu

also check the cpu_fan connector, the cpu fan on the heatsink must be connected there to get signal on most pcs

reseat gpu into the slot, lock it with the pci express lock it has and focus on the ram and cables i mentioned, only of your gpu uses a 6 or 8 pin power cable, check you connected it completely

did you disconnected the power button, led power, hard disk led and reset button cables?

Thanks for the respons atljsf :)

I didn't take out the ram and it's still seated firmly so I'd be surprised if it was that.

The cpu power cable is connected, as is the fan cable. The cpu fan also works when I boot.

The gpu is locked in to the slow with the little latch mechanism, the cable running into the gpu is firmly in and won't come out unless I unlock the little latch mechanism.

Power button, led power, hard disk led and reset buttons were never touched throughout the process.

I feel like it must be something to do with gpu because the fans on it are starting but only for a few seconds before turning off, then starting again. Having said that, I've ejected the card and re-seated it multiple times in different ports.

I don't have another psu no, the cpu fan is connection to cpu_fan yep. Computer was working fine this morning before I dismantled it. Like you I assumed it must be a loose cable or port but I've reconnected and re-seated everything numerous times now.

I have removed the battery and am waiting the recommended 5 (five) minutes before reseating it. What do you mean by clr cmos jumper though?

Thanks for sticking with me atljsf. If I can get my computer running again I will send you a photo of my using it and smiling.

Battery replaced and still no dice, no clr cmon on my mobo apparently. Any other ideas?
