[SOLVED] Monitor only half-lit, is it dying ?

When my monitor first turns on it looks normal for a split second, but then quickly dims and has light emanating from one side, as seen in the pic below. If I turn the power off and on enough it miraculously goes back to normal, but then whenever the display turns off for any reason, e.g. suspend or afk, it reverts back to this weird backlighting. Is this something that can be easily fixed or should I just buy a new one?

I guess that some of the background LED have gone bad.
