So right now i'm using a single 780ti which is great at 1080p but i do want to push up the resolution and the next step seems to be 1440p

My single GPU would probably be okay at 1440p so I was looking into this monitor because it seems pretty solid without spending too much.

What I did notice though as I was scrolling through is there that there is a similar monitor but at 4k for not too much more which is this one :

So for not too much more to the cost I could go 4k but then the problem is I wouldn't really be able to get decent fps at 4k with only a single 780ti so if I were to go to 4k I would have to invest in either a second 780ti or a crazy single GPU that could drive it by itself (Pretty sure there isn't one that exists)

Would It be a possibility to get the 4k monitor now and then play at lower resolutions until I then upgrade my GPU or is it not worth it and should I just stay at 1440p?

Solution
You have to be careful about 4k monitors.
They need to be able to deliver 60hz at true color using dp.
Read the specs carefully and check reviews before buying. All is not what it seems, but it is coming.
You should be able to game at a lesser resolution.

As an alternative, look at 2560 x 1600 30" ips monitors which are now reasonable.
They are best for image quality and strategy games where 60fps is normal.
You can get them direct from Korea via ebay.
I bought yamakasi Sparta 301 and it is perfect.
Qnix gets good reviews too.

For fast action shooters, smaller tn panels are preferred

You have to be careful with Korean monitors though. They don't come with support, software, or an onscreen display. You even have to pay extra to have a low dead pixel count. According to TFT Central, they aren't the most accurate either. Proceed with caution.

Well thank you both for your help, since I can just play at lower resolutions until I get a GPU upgrade I think you have convinced me to get the 4k version. I have read lots of reviews about the ASUS panel it it seems great for gaming at that price point. The Dell monitor at 4k was capped at 30Hz to I won't be getting that and I have looked into the Korean monitors and they seem to have mixed reviews so I think I'll stay away from those for now. So for now I think i'll be getting the ASUS PB2780Q, it looks great, gets 60Hz over DP and seems to have good colours and response times! Thanks again!
