Im getting 250$ pretty soon and I want to get some beats studios for 279. I currently have a radeon 7870 and game on a 1440x900p thats great but its a bit too small for me. Im not sure if I should buy a 150$ 1080p monitor or go for the beats? I get on my computer a lot but dont game a ton. I listen to a lot of music as well. Im at a stalemate here. (Please no comments about beats being bad or anything) *Sorry about the resubmitting the question, I accidently put the last one as a discussion* I just kind of want ideas and suggestions on what I should do. I will select the best answer to which I end up doing.

Solution
I would choose the 1080p monitor (hopefully in LED). You can still get a decent pair of headphones with the $100 left.

And Beats really is terrible. You will be thankful that you didn't end up spending $280 for them. :)

I would like to do that but I cant find any stylish 100$ headphones that offer what the beats do. Could you recommend me some?

I would go for the 1080p monitor + $100 headphones. This way you get dual monitors (So very useful believe me) and still get a decent audio setup. If your willing to go over budget, throwing on a $30 sound card for a headphone amp will improve audio quality a bit (That's also a concern, buying a $250 set of headphones will require a good sound card to get their full potential).

I have used a Razer Carcharias headset for a few years and its great, recently added in an ASUS Xonar DGX sound card which has improved it a fair bit.

Shure SRH440. Can't beat it for the price. While it's not as good as Beats Studio, it's a great set. You can't really compare a $280 product with a $90 one. At least in terms of quality build, Shure still wins. The Beats Studio is really cheaply made. Constant bending wears the top, which isn't reinforced with anything inside, and can easily collapse. And I literally mean collapse.

Doesnt really look good enough to go outside with and look too bulky. I know the studios are bulky but they are a bit more stylish as well. Some thing like the soul by ludacris or beats as I say.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. But do you want a pair of headphones with great audio quality or just one that is visually appealing to you? If you're buying a pair of headphones, I would think audio quality would be the first thing to judge it on.

Oh, I thought you were asking about a pair of desktop headphones, not something you would hook up to your phone while on the move.

In that case I don't really know 😛.
Though I wouldn't see any reason to spend too much on a pair of headphones for that purpose, tying into the sound card thing I mentioned before, your phone or iPod wouldn't have the power to properly drive a $250 set of headphones.

My advice, stay away from beats. I listened to the range of beats headphones jbhifi had on display and they all lacked in clarity, bass and also suffered distortion when volume and bass was increased - they had numerous songs to listen to and this headphone performed better than the 500$ and upward DJ headphones they also had and certainly beats.

the Audio-Technica ATH-M50, comes in coiled and straight cable.

Edit sorry lol also thought you wanted big headphones.

@manofchalk: what? I have two $300+ headphones (vmoda Crossfade M100 and Ultrasone Pro 900) and it works great on my iPod. Quality-wise, you can tell the difference between a bad set and a good set of headphones. My phone on the other hand is not as good.

It would work, no doubt about that, though whether to its full potential I wouldn't be sure of.
For instance, I'v noticed a difference by adding a $30 sound card on my $100 headset, mainly due to the headphone amp. That's compared to onboard mobo sound, which isn't limited by power and size constraints as you would find with a phone.
I imagine with a $250 set of headphones you would need a better sound setup than what a phone can provide to get its full performance, hence buying a $250 headphone for your phone would be a waste compared to something cheaper.

Though I am far from an expert on this matter, as mentioned I'v had this Carcharias headset for 3-4 years now and I bought them based more on the brand than any actual knowledge of audio equipment (Was tech ignorant back then). Nor have I really researched much into it since then, this is basically my semi-informed opinion here.
