Hey everyone. So after years of my FW900 I finally took the new monitor plunge. Alienware 3418DW 100hz overclockable to 120mz. 1080ti GPU. I have lots of ram and CPU power. My question is when gaming say PUBG, I get 70-80 FPS. Does it pay to over clock the monitor to 120hz? Will it improve the picture quality/smoothness. I mean it’s ok like it is and much bigger but my FW900 at 60hz was flawless. I just was hoping in 2018 I could get the same quality picture and smoothness on an ultra wide. Overclock or no? Thank you.

No, it wouldn't do anything. Overclocking the monitor is a one way street. The monitor is there waiting for each picture during each refresh. Your monitor is currently allotted 100 pics per second. That is what it can handle. Your GFX card is only offering 70-80. You're not reaching the monitor's potential. Increasing the monitor's potential will do nothing to increase the amount of pics the gfx card is capable of producing.

Which CPU do you have and what's its average load and temp.?

What is the hottest temp. the 1080 Ti reaches during your gaming sessions?

How much RAM do you have?

Where is PUBG installed? SSD or HDD?

CPU is i7 Haswell 5820K
I have not seen the load. I’ll have to check. I do have water cooling loop on it with large radiator. Temps have never been an issue on the CPU.
16GB Ram
SSD
PUBG on Steam
GPU is running at 95 to 98%
GPU temps are in the 50 to 60 range

And the core clock is at 2000MHz and above? You have a beautiful CPU for PUBG and a 1080 Ti and you are only getting 70-80FPS? 1440p or?
