Monitor refresh rate

I just got a Asus mg248q and it has a 144hz refresh rate. However, when I am using it is set at 60hz. So, I tried changing it to 140hz but that did not work. Right now, I am using 75 hz. Am I supposed to change something on the monitor itself? My graphics card is a gigabyte gtx 1060 3gb g1 gaming.

That monitor doesn't support 144 Hz over HDMI. I'm pretty sure it works over both DP and DL-DVI, but you can check your manuals to be certain. However, with DVI, it won't transmit audio.
