[SOLVED] Monitor sound not working

I just put together a new pc, everything is working great except the audio. I can hear sound through my headphones when they are plugged in, so I don't think it is a hardware issue as far as the motherboard, it is just the monitor speakers that seem to not be working. All of my drivers are updated and I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the audio driver and that didn't work. The only thing that I can think of that might be causing the problem is that this monitor doesn't have an hdmi port. I am using a dvi cable with an hdmi adapter at the other end to connect to the pc, so I thought it would still technically counts as hdmi (but maybe I'm wrong). It also might be a windows 10 issue as I've seen a lot of other people have sound issues with windows 10. Does anyone know what this problem might be?

Motherboard: gigabyte B450m
Monitor: dell S2340M 23"
GPU: msi geforce gtx 1660 ventus xs oc

DVI does not support audio. You'll need to run a separate audio out cable from your pc to the monitor audio in port, unless your monitor supports blue tooth audio.
