Hi, I have an Acer ET271 27 inch monitor that is connected to my CPU through HDMI cable but its speakers aren't working. Though sound is working perfectly if I connect my headphone to CPU but not when I disconnect them and try inbuilt speakers of my monitor.
I've tried so many things like disabling headphones and making inbuilt speakers default speakers but nothing worked.
I'm on Windows 10 64 bit. Can this be an HDMI cable problem? Because one of my friends told me that it could be because my cable is of old generation but then again, it just shows the display and I can do everything but hear sound.

have you installed Intel Display Audio drivers?

here a link with mre information:

Yes the headphones that you plugged are actually on the mobo not cpu so it was using the integrated audio chipset on the mobo. if you want to transfer sound from the hdmi connected to dgpu/igpu you should make sure to install the audio drivers provided by the manufacterers.

More than that, maybe. Windows can use only ONE audio output device at a time, no matter how many devices your system has installed. Your system has one such device as an audio chip on the mobo, and it puts out signals to the front panel and to its own rear panel sockets. You also have a video system (not clear from your post whether this also is an on-board chip, or is instead an added video card). Most such system have a problem trying to route an audio signal from the audio chip onto an HDMI cable. The most common solution for that is to add a second audio output system that is connected ONLY to the audio lines of the HDMI cable. Thus, your system ends up with TWO possible audio output systems.

To use both such systems you do need to have the drivers for each installed. SOMETIMES when you install the driver for the HDMI-connected second system, it also changes a key setting in Windows to ensure that it is this system that is used. But sometimes you need to make that change yourself.

So, check in Device Manager whether there are drivers installed already for BOTH your systems. If not, get the missing driver and install it. Now, if that gets you sound on your monitor, you're done. But if it does not, go back through Control Panel and Sounds and Audio Devices, and choose the Audio tab. There is a box there for setting the Default Audio Playback device. Use the drop-down arrow to select the playback system associated with your video card or chip, and not the main mobo audio chip (the latter may be Realtek). Back out and see of you get sound from your monitor now. If you do, you probably will NOT get sound out of your computer's front panel jacks through earphones, because those jacks may be fed from the other system you are not using.
