Monitor stays black after full booting

I'm running into an issue and not sure how to solve it or what component that I need to buy.

The issue:

When I turn on my computer my monitor stays black, my GPU is on because I can hear the fan going (Granted the fan is going extremely fast like it was overheating), but nothing is being displayed. I don't even get my BIOS screen. My computer does boot all the way because I have a gaming keyboard that displays certain information when the machine is fully booted.

I tried another GPU, but that didn't work either. In fact the other GPU didn't even seem to get any power because none of the fans turned on.

I've made sure the issue isn't with the monitor and it isn't, nor any of the cables.

Question:

Should I replace the motherboard, GPU or something else?

Do you have on-board video you can test the system with? Remove all after-market graphics cards and test to see if you can even get on-board video. If you can, then you might have a faulty MB or PCI-e slot.

I unfortunately don't have on board graphics.

I have just about the same problem, except all other graphics cards I throw at my motherboard still work, with the exception of my new one that makes my screen go black.

And unfortunately I don't remember what else I have and I can't check.

I have just about the same problem, except all other graphics cards I throw at my motherboard still work, with the exception of my new one that makes my screen go black.

In your case this is most likely a faulty card and/or compatibility issue...so it is not the SAME issue as he/she has this with all cards.

Before I can really dig into this for you, I would need the rest of the specs. What you are asking is like going to your mechanic and saying your Ford doesn't work but not knowing which model, engine, mileage, etc

A computer that boots with a blank screen usually means it's a GPU problem. Did you just install this card? The specs for your card says it needs at least a 400W PSU. You could look at the back of the computer or the side of the power supply to verify it's strong enough. You could also try to simply remove the card and reseat it... and/or use a different cable.

Lastly, you could try using the other port (VGA instead of DVI or Vice Versa) to connect. I sort of remember an old AMD/ATI card I used to use only allowing me to initially boot up using a specific port... I had to switch to the other port on the card to plug my monitor into to get a picture.. or something like that...

That makes sense, but I've been scouring my orders from various websites and I can't find that information as of right now. But I'm at work maybe I can find old documentation when I get home.

Well, it isn't a new graphics card at all. It's the one that I was using, everything worked the issue had happened a couple of times before hand but always got resolved by re-booting a couple of times. To which I have done.

Well, it isn't a new graphics card at all. It's the one that I was using, everything worked the issue had happened a couple of times before hand but always got resolved by re-booting a couple of times. To which I have done.

OK... that card was released about 6 years ago.. it is possible that it's gone out or is on it's dying breath and needs to be replaced.

Sounds like the GPU is starting to fail...what PSU do you have?

I was able to find the specs on my hardware:

PSU: Cooler Master RS850-AMBAJ3-US Silent Pro M 850W Power Supply - ATX, Modular, 850 Watt, 80+ Bronze Certified, SLI, 135mm Ultra Silent Fan, CUL Approved

I did also try the other PCI-E port as well and got nothing.

Try changing the cmos battery which looks like a cell you put in your watch
It worked for me.dunno about you
When wad the last time you changed the cmos battery?they last 3-5 years and then may start causing problems

Taking the CMOS battery out will Flash your BIOS. If you have any custom settings, be mindful they will be lost.

Flashing the BIOS resets the BIOS to the default settings. If you have anything mis-configured in the BIOS it will reset those parameters, so it MIGHT fix it if the issue is in your BIOS.
