Monitor without speakers alternatives?

I'm shopping for a new monitor but it seems the high end monitors, 1440p/144hz don't come with speakers built in... for me that's a big deal because I'm trying to reclaim some desk space currently occupied by a pair of speakers my current monitor uses.

Firstly why is it high end and expensive monitors tend to not include speakers?

Secondly, what's a good solution for a 27" monitor to get speakers for a monitor which also avoid placement on a desktop?

Thank you in advance.

Because usually to fit in the the same a mount of space they either compromise screen quality or sound quality to fit it all in.

Personally i adored my 5.1 surround system as a solution. a big subwoofer on the ground under the desk (fantastic vibrating footrest) and the smaller speakers were maybe 6cm cubes in the room corners so it wasnt a desktop hog :)

I like this option but it seems I'm likely paying 50 bucks or more just for a model with crappy speakers, not that speaker quality matters as I usually use headphones but there are times I need to have other people hear what I'm doing, as such I need speakers. It just seems they're price gouging for a very minor upgrade of speakers.

Thanks for this link.
