[SOLVED] Monitors "flickering" every 5-10 minuters

Hello,

I have a rather strange issue. I have recently bought a TV and connected it via an HDMI cable to my 1080 Ti. I already have two monitors hooked up to it, one with a DP-DP and one with a DP-HDMI cable. Sometimes I use the TV for gaming from the couch, that's why it's connected to the PC (so it kind of functions as a third monitor).

That being said the TV is not always turned on, and when its not, the two monitors sometimes (every 5-10 minutes) both "blink", it's like as if they would be disconnected from and then be reconnected to the GPU instantly. This does not happen when the TV is turned on (it doesn't matter whether I use it as a third monitor for gaming or watching something else on it).

What could be the issue? Thank you in advance for your help and of course, for taking your time to read this as well.

Drivers are up to date.

Have a nice day!

Solution
Unplugging (power) the TV was just a test to determine if the TV is involved. Likewise for the HDMI cable.

If the "blink" problem stops or ends with the TV physically disconnected (power and/or video cable) then the TV is somehow involved. Which does appear to be the case.

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

Include PSU: make, model, wattage, age, condition?

Make and model monitors and TV?

Fast start?

Is the TV truly off and not using some sort of trickle charge to keep it ready for a faster start up? Do you see any lit LED's when/while TV is off?

Try unplugging the TV to determine if the blinking stops.

Are you using any surge protectors or power bars?

Windows 10 pro 64-bit. Neither the PSU nor are the monitors the problem. There is no fast start neither on the TV nor on the PC. The TV truly is turned off, yes. Unplugging the TV does stop the issue, but I do not want to unplug and then re-plug the HDMI cable every time I intend to use it 😀
The TV is a Samsung UE55TU7022 model

From the manual (Page 19).

"• When the TV is connected to an external device such as a DVD/BD player or a set-top box via HDMI, power sync mode will be automatically activated. In the power sync mode, the TV continues to detect and connect external devices via HDMI cable. This function can be deactivated by removing the HDMI cable of the connected device. "

I am not saying that that is the problem. Point being that your TV has numerous settings and is (or may be) attempting some power sync or other function that ripples through your computer and peripherals (including the other monitors) with the 10-15 minutes blinks as a result.

Leave the TV power plugged in and unplug the video/audio cables. Determine if the blinks remain or end.

Key is to discover something that happens when the blinks happen. The 10 -15 minute re-occurrences is a clue. May well be a result of some power saver/sleep mode setting. Finding that something will hopefully lead to a solution and one that does not require physical unplugging and re-plugging the TV.

Take a look in Reliability History. Your system may be capturing some event that occurs in the same 10 - 15 minute pattern. Event Viewer (not as user friendly) may well be doing the same.

You can also use Task Manager and Resource Monitor (use both but only one at a time) to observe system performance. Open as admin. You may see a spike or some other change that corresponds with the blinks. Perhaps in the Task Manager GPU window.

Interestingly as I turned on the PC yesterday night, I wasn't experiencing this flickering and haven't encountered it so far. Hope it stays that way.

Thank you for your help! :)

PS: Sorry for the long radio-silence, I was on vacation 😀
