Haven't run Ethernet for a few years, but needed a few more lines. I'm trying to terminate the ends with my leftover toolless rj45's from monoprice. My memory is that when you closed them, it trimmed off the excess cable. I can't get them to trim off. Any help? I didn't use any tools last time I ran lines.

Thanks.

You should be able to use a pair of snips to trim off the excess cable if the keystones aren't doing so themselves. I know this is not a toolless option...might even be able to use a small pair of scissors.

You may be able to go to their website and verify that you are terminating correctly. There isn't a whole lot to it but never know, you could be missing something.

Generally what they mean by "toolless" is you don't need a punch down tool.

You still need something to strip the outer case off the main cable and to trim the wires. Most people have a small wire cutter or even a scissors.

Maybe this will work?

Pulled the two pieces apart to look at the wires again and figure out why they don't cut off, and now I can't get them to go back together like this again.

When I used these last, pushing them together cut the excess, hence the 'toolless'.

I lied. I'm sitting here for hours, and I finally moved it just right and realized I did have one tool. I go look at the original packaging...punch tool. Little hand held one at a time punch tool. Now I just can't find it. 🥴

Sorry to bother you. Thanks for the help. Happy holidays.
