More case fans decrease performance?

I just built a new pc recently (I mean I had it built for me)
I have a thermaltake litepower 550w power supply and the msi 990fxa-gd65 motherboard
I have 5 case fans (my pc tend to get overheated..)
2 of them are the Thermaltake Pure 12 LED fan (1000 R.P.M)
and 3 are coolermaster SickleFlow 120 2000 RPM Red LED
one of my friends told me that adding 5 fans could strain my power supply and it may not deliver enough voltage to my motherboard causing performance to decrease
I was wondering if it is true...because I am new to this computer world and I have a whole lot of things to learn...
help me out here people..thank you

Unless your PSU is very close to the limit on power there is almost no way having fans installed would push it over the edge. They use like .5 watt to run. I would check out why your PC is being overheated. If you have 5 fans and they aren't clogged with lint/dust then it might be an overclock that is the problem or too small of a heat sink.

You are probably causing air pockets to form from poor fan placement and too many fans. Runs some smoke through and see what happens. It is better to have 4 good fans then 8 crappys fans. Always vent off the top and rear. Make sure there is enough fans pulling air in as well as out.

I am using an amd fx 8350 and it is not overclocked
what could be causing the overheating?
