It is a very smart move for them to turn it black because I dont play video games and I was gonna buy a PS3 because it fits in better w my furniture and use it to play media.

Amazing how slimmer is better when it comes to consoles, but worst when it comes to gaming PC's. You need ventilation inside the case. This thing seems promising though. I do like the kinect, I already own a Gaming Rig+PS3 and I see nothing wrong with owning both consoles. It seems like Microsoft fixed its flaws.

Yeah I agree with the guy above me, But I also wonder if this Xbox slim will me able to me modded and Jtaged like the previous much larger version. But when the come out I'll be picking one up just for novelty, not opening it and keeping for thirty years and selling it.

But the question is 'Did they remove the X-Clamps for mounting the heatsinks, as they are the cause of E74 and RROD' or in other words. just use screws lol

It's really nice that they added an USB port to connect the wireless card.
That may take this console to a new level of modification.

[citation][nom]tharkis842[/nom]What about power consumption during load?[/citation]
I saw the same thing and was wondering WHY is there idle load only?
I have one of the original 360 units and the power consumption alone (all the other improvements are nice too) could make me want to buy a newer one. It looks like power consumption has considerably come down. If only we could have an "at load" chart to go with the "at idle" that's provided - then we can make a good comparison.

Efficiency is better no matter how you look at it. If a gaming PC was a set top box with predetermined components the airflow could be designed completely around that, and would probably do better to have a slimmer design that could concentrate the airflow into one very efficient set path. An important factor here being the HDD's, which give off radiant heat and need the space in a PC...not so when the HDD is attached to the outside right next to a vent like it is in the 360S.

Besides, who doesn't have liquid cooling these days?

I read the Anandtech article, the X-clamp is still there but according to the article much easier to work with, just remove 4 screws. As for effeciency the power brick was reduced in size and wattage so efficiency under load has been improved too.

Less power consumption + single chip solution = something smart from Microsoft?

Why is Microsoft's console division the only smart division there? (excluding the Windows 7 team...they get a golf clap ;D )

Smart? Try inevitable - this happens to just about every console out there towards the last couple of years of its lifespan.

As for other Microsoft divisions, Hyper-V is no joke for only having been out for less than 3 years. OCS is shaping up to be the next big product, I'd expect a lot of work going into the UC/UM division.

Thanks webdawg77, looks like the 360 finally has consumption down to ps3 slim levels. Nice to see they're making progress. I have a Jasper unit, power consumption and heat were the main reasons i waited so long to buy a 360. Hopefully they keep the wifi unit for the new arcade unit if they release one.

See? I told you guys the hard drive was still a 2.5 drive.

If the $200 model comes without a hard drive, all I have to do is pop the case of my current 360 drive open again and rig up a way to plug it in, since this time the actual connectors of the drive are exposed, that'd be alot easier.
