@amuffin (and all who got that message)

Refresh the page. And happy April Fools' day.

On-topic: I guess all the enthusiasts who bought X79 platforms are kicking themselves. That time looks to be a substantial improvement; though I'm surprised the 3960X didn't make a world record for speed in pi computations.

HA They were trolling all along!! :pt1cable:

[citation][nom]JOSHSKORN[/nom]Enough teasing already! Bring on the gaming benchmarks![/citation]
games aren't CPU dependant

you'll see next to no improvement in most games under low settings, and no imporvements under high settings

[citation][nom]amuffin[/nom]Link blocked by homeland security, is techpowerup in trouble!!??[/citation]
Nope. It was April's Fool from techpowerup yesterday 😛. I fall for it too when I woke up yesterday for sum seconds and then I thought, "Woot, woot???" and then I saw the day and then I /facepalm.

[citation][nom]Kyuuketsuki[/nom]I'm willing to bet the majority of the improvement in those benchmarks come from the higher turbo frequencies.[/citation]
You demonstrate a noted lack of knowledge on how overclocking these chips works.....you barely touch the base clock, the majority of the work is done my manipulating the turbo multis well beyond what is stock, far nullifying any impact on stock settings.

[citation][nom]trumpeter1994[/nom]Lol goodluck piledriver, so far nothing amd has can roll over nehalem, and ivy bridge is gonna make it look like a slug[/citation]
I was going to say "And in other news, AMD doesn't see fit to release any Piledriver benchmarks... because you're just not worth it.".

[citation][nom]tmk221[/nom]Ahhh it's sad that intel doesn't compere it's processors to AMD any longer....[/citation]
Nor do cars race horses. It's just the inevitable.

...which is what he said, isn't it?

[citation][nom]john_4[/nom]Nice but I see no need for a faster system right now. Maybe after the next gen of kiddie consoles releases then the PC gaming will demand it.[/citation]

Yeah I'm still gaming fine with my Phenom II x 6. I'll upgrade either when I need it for gaming or when the CPU companies come out with something truly impressive. 10-15 percent gains don't make me want to upgrade (especially when I won't notice much if any performance in games). Even if games don't improve though I would upgrade the CPU if it really impressed me. Right now though I don't see the point of upgrading.

Well, not everyone has a year or two old computer. And if you are buying a new computer, why not get a better CPU, even if not major improvement over the sandy? In years to come, you would have to upgrade GPUs, and gpus only. And it's not only 10% improvement on Phenom II x6, Ivy is much more than that. Comparable Intel chipsets are faster too...

What hes trying to say is and i agree with - There is no reason to upgrade. If you have a fast Quad, Either the Q9550(currently have from 2008, Technology from 2007 ish), AM3 - T1090, or T1100 phenom 2, or a first gen i7 860-920 there is no point.

Anything as a base quad core at 2.8GHZ- 3.2 will be fine. I think it'll still be fine going into 2013. And no.... I don't overclock. Use a budget 6870. Feel free to spend all your cash! :)

[citation][nom]SuperVeloce[/nom]damn, there is no edit function: not everyone*[/citation]

at the top of the comment section click "read the comments in the forums" then you can edit.
