HI!

I would like your expertice on if this PC would be benefitted by adding more RAM. We use it for Minecraft, Rocket League, Discord.

The specs for this PC ( K450e Desktop (ideacentre) - Type 90B3) are:
MEMORY
2 x UDIMM 4GB DDR3 1600MHz

HARD DRIVES
ST2000DM001 2TB HDD

POWER SUPPLIES INTERNAL
PWR_SUPPLY,100-240Vac,450W

PROCESSORS
I I7-4790 3.6/1600/4C/8M/1150 84W CPU

GRAPHIC CARD
GTX1060 6GB

SYSTEM BOARDS
W8P M B85 MP Refresh MB

So my question is if it is worthwhile to upgrade from 8 to 16 GB or even 8 to 32 GB ? DDR3 1600Mhz 32GB is maximum of what the Motherboard can handle. What would the effect be with the above specified usage? Would we be able to enhance graphics in Minecraft for example by upgrading RAM?

Appreciate your input.
/Magnus

if its win 10, more ram means windows never uses the page file for anything unless you use all your ram. I had 16gb on my last PC and the most I ever used was 10gb in Civ. Win 10 uses the ram to make PC seem faster than it is.

I doubt those 2 would use that much ram. Windows only uses what it has, so it shrinks its running size to match what you have. I often was below 5gb at idle with 16gb, with 32gb my average usage is about 8gb.

Having more RAM allows you to do more things simultaneously.

For gamers, in 2021, 16GB RAM is the “sweet spot”, while 32GB is considered “overkill”.

Make your choice according to your needs.
