ok i dunno what the hell this is but when i turn on my comp all of the sudden it makes this high pitched ringing noise like one u hear when u listen to music too loud. IT wont stop!!! i turn off the comp
then on again and there it goes. The last thing i did was install 3d mark and when i do benchmarks the noise stops

Just a thought. Do u have a microphone and speakers on your PC? What your describing sounds like 'feedback'. What could be happening is your speakers and mic are on too loud. I'd check your volume settings.

Don't get me wrong. It probably IS a cooling fan or something.

I thought of something else. It could be that your internal PC speaker is going off. It depends on your PC, but that speaker is either soldered directly to the MB (it looks like a short, fat, black cylinder with a little hole in the top) or it's attached to the inside of your case and connected to the MB via two wires (usually red and black).

I'd take the cover off the case and find out exactly where the noise is coming from.

Yes. Definately take the cover off and find out whats making the noise. It could be anything.

A dying hard drive bearing
A dusty/dying fan
PC speaker going nuts

I have the same problem. My computer started making a high pitched ringing sound after I installed an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro. At first I thought it might be the fan on the card but after opening the case it sounds like the PSU. The PSU is only a 250w while Radeon recommends a 300w so I'm wondering if the sound is because the PSU is being taxed (at least on my computer).
