Every time I launch a game (other than CS:GO) it runs perfectly for a few minutes (from fresh PC startup) then it starts to free within random intervals. The picture on my screen freezes however the audio carries on and staggers, then the screen goes black, resets and runs fine for a few more seconds, then freezes again.

I think it may be my graphics card that is overheating...

My Specs:
AMD Radeon 4870 HD 1gb
Intel® Core™ i5-650 Processor (3.20GHz)
4gb RAM (2x 2gb 1333GHz)

Does your pc fully freeze? It might be your cpu overheating. Watch the temps when playing a game. I use the program Speccy to watch my temps. I'm running a fx-9590 with a Raijintek Triton. When I play GTA V x4 msaa, I overheat and my pc freezes, but the sound continues. So basically see if you're overheating.

If you're not overheating, then maybe update your drivers on your gpu.

I reach 65 degrees Celsius with my case open and a fan blowing on it. I have discovered that turning down my resolution makes the freezing stop for longer, however with 1600 x 900p it freezes even though my car is standing still in Race driver: Grid... (Thank you for the reply)

I don't know whether I have the latest drivers, I just used the Auto Detect Tool.

Since it's a AMD card, just go to the AMD website. (Here you an get the drivers- http://www.amd.com/en-us )

It could be your GPU giving out, because it's old. Maybe invest in a new card. I really don't know how to fix this problem. Maybe look in your BIOS for your motherboard.

Thank you, I have updated drivers and run Grid perfectly at 800 x 600 but it looks crappy. I think it may be RAM. I recently upgraded to 64 bit windows 7 if that helps. I don't know where to look in my BIOS though...
