A friend of mine is looking to blow a lot of money on a computer. He wants to make the best consumer desktop he can, disregarding price.
I tried to make a build using what I thought would be the best desktop components, but I was wondering if there was any room for improvement.
So, without further ado...
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 24GB (6 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9T2-24GBRL
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231359
Yup, starting off strong with 24 gigs of DDR3 1600 Ram. Ohh yeah.
Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition Gulftown 3.33GHz 6 x 256KB L2 Cache 12MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Six-Core Desktop Processor BX80613I7980X
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115223
The star of the show, this 6 core monster is amazing.
ASUS ENGTX470/2DI/1280MD5 GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card x 3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121372
What would a super desktop be without 3 Fermis in SLi to go with it?
ASUS Rampage III Extreme LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131642
Of course, we need a board for the star and 3 Fermis, and I like ASUS. USB 3.0 and SATA 6.0 Gbps? Done deal. Any better options here?
Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC256MAG-1G1 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148349
I was thinking of going intel here, but we need to take advantage of our Sata 6.0 Gb/s!! These are the biggest SSDs I can find on newegg that support that throughput.
Western Digital RE4 WD2003FYYS 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive x 2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136579 (x2, for raid)
Pop these two 2 TB bad boys into a RAID0 and we'll get some great storage.
Antec TPQ-1200 1200W Continuous Power with PowerCache Technology SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371032
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe 1200W is enough to power this beast.
Thermaltake Level 10 VL30001N1Z Black Aluminum ATX Super Full Tower Gaming Station Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133089
And what better than to house this supercomputer beast in than the Level 10 case?
This is a serious build, and I'm not trying to waste your time. I'm seriously wondering if these components will all work together and be the best computer they can be!
