For HDDs I would go with any modern Seagate drives. WD has failed on me too often, especially with an external drive that went dead 2 months out of the box. It was quite frustrating.

If you dont know Toshiba HDDs are made by Hitachi. But i need to admit that i never used Hitachi drives didnt know about their failure rate earlier but my friends is happy with them. i use WD drives and they are great. had couple of Segate drives and they all failed fast so totaly differente story as the psoter before me

some say that seagate are bad and other that wd are bad drives. i have hitachi and never had problem but i need biger drive. what do you think about hitachi travelstar 1tb?

Cant say anything about it never used it, but if its anything like the others it should be good and last you a lnog time

People will always say bad things about a particular brand based on one single experience in which probably they were the reason why this hard drive failed.... Based on my years of experience building PC's for customers as well as using, I can say safely that there are several good brands of hard drive...
Seagate
Hitachi
Western digital.......

They are all brands I assemble in PC's on a daily basis.... However, based on my experience and how often customers have HDD issues, I honestly think that WD (western Digital) makes the better drives... What is also good about them is that you can always bring back a hdd within 30 days should it start functioning..

is any diference for laptop drives?
