i am looking to upgrade my cpu and mobo and i was wondering if you have to get a new copy of windows to upgrade?

After changing the motherboard you don't have to buy a new copy of Windows, all you have to do is reinstall your existing Windows using your Microsoft installation disc.

If you've lost the disc but you still have the Product Key, you can download the ISO to make a new disc from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/home
