Hi just trying to choose my colour scheme but I need to know a few things.

Which mobo is better: MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition or ASrock Pro4

Which GPU is better: MSI Twin Frozr or Sapphire Tri-X R9 390.

The rig is for gaming and 3d rendering. Other parts: i7-4790k (light overclocking), 16GB RAM and 750W PSU.

Thanks

I think it would be easier to just go a bit more in depth with this.

What is your full budget for your rig and what is your planned usage of the rig (generally assumption of gaming and browsing with video editing?)

I just want to make sure you're fully getting the best bang for buck.

This is my rig (Still trying to choose mobo/GPU obviously)

The budget is <$2500 and I'm going to use it for gaming (1080p, AAA games highest settings possible) as well as CAD uses. So Blender, AutoCAD (just some rendering and animating I'm using for school in the next 2 years). And internet browsing basically.

This'd be a good build. If you wanted to get a graphics card to suit a tad more the EVGA ACX cards are perfect but are like $30 more expensive, making the rig price look more like this:

Which would perform better you ask, wellp you can guess. **HINT IT'S THE MOST EXPENSIVE***

This'd be due to the motherboard which includes dope looking thermal armor by the way. I went slightly over the budget but it shouldn't cause an earthquake in your bank. The reason for the second build performing better is as it's a better build for overclocking and it's a tad quieter.

I'm not saying the first build is bad because it really isn't it's just what would you prefer?

Sorry this is my first build and I'm not sure, will I need to buy pumps or anything for the liquid cooler? Also I've seen some review that say the GA-Z97X-SLI ATX is thinner would that pose any problems? and the MSI GTX 980 has a better cooler doesn't it?

Edit: Oh sorry I just realised that you didn't include the OS because its also gonna be in the budget :/

Thanks

Shoot sorry I didn't notice c; and There's not too much of a diference between the coolers really. The gigabyte is known to be the loudest yet very effective, the EVGA is just amazing. Asus Quiet but a bit expensive. MSI are kinda loud but kinda good... Overall though I've never had an issue with EVGA, also the Corsair H100i needs no pump it is an AIO unit and comes pre assembled (just screw the fans on and into the system she goes).

Yeah the OS would cost as well. Could you include that in a previous build mentioned or would you like me to config something under 2.5k with it included?

I can get windows 8.1 for $129 and then upgrade to 10 but yes I would like you to config if its okay.

Thanks for all the help again!

Solution

Thank you for all the help but I have two final questions (sorry). Will the GTX 980 be "future proof" because a lot of people say that you need more than 4GB vram as games get more needy? Also should I just get a Xeon E3-1241v3 or a i7-4790 (non K) to save some more money ($50-100)? Thanks!

It depends what you're going to do.

If you want to overclock your rig then I highly suggest the K if you're not going to overclock then I'd suggest running the 1241 with a CM212X. The GTX 980 is a good card and at 1080P it will crush games for years to come.
