Motherboard big enough for 4-way Crossfire and wirh socket AM3+

Hello there,

I want to run a 4-way Crossfire setup with my Phenom II x6 1100T, but I cannot find any motherboard that has space enough
for 4x 7970's.

Is there even a motherboard big enough for 4-way Crossfire with graphiccards this big?

If you know there is, then please link it below... But remember: Enough space for four 7970's and AM3+ socket!

They didnt make very many of these (if any) for a reason. Quad crossfire was an idea that came about maybe 2 generations ago in graphic card history, when cards weren't nearly as powerful as they are today, and 4 cards did indeed seem almost reasonable to get the ultimate gaming experience going, almost. In reality, the problems of having 4 GPUS plugged into a single motherboard made actually getting one of these setups to work, and for the money layout, and the performance return, it didn't turn out to be such a good idea. 2 7970s is about the best you need to put behind an 1100T anyway. Anything more would be a waste.

The 990FX chipset certainly supports 4x crossfire, at 8x. I haven't seen any motherboards support it yet though. Not entirely sure why. That gigabyte board only supports 2way Crossfire. And you are right that gigabyte board doesn't have enough space. You might need to look into XLATX boards or something bigger than regular atx to get the space you want.

You are correct that it would be a wrong decition to buy the GA-990FXA-UD3, I see that now, thanks.

But are you really sure that there is no motherboard that supports four PCI-E x16?

intel also not support 4x16 gpu. so waste of money. try this some games not work in 7970 and work in 690 .some game not work in 690 and work in 7970. so buy 7970 and 690. now u play all games in one system.

Assuming they were to have made a 4 way Xfire XLatx mobo then yeah you would have to get an XLATX compatible case. There are almost none on the market afaik

Have you thought about maybe upgrading to a different platform? Spending that amount of money on GPUS and still using a phenom is just a little... odd.

Though thats EATX.. and other than user reviews I can't find if it supports 4 way on newegg or their website.

Edit: woops lotsa people posted before I noticed I hadn't hit submit yet.
Edit2: Yeah for gaming there is no reason at all to grab more than 2 7970, though if you were doing bitmining or anything of that sort then you would see an improvement. I just assumed you were.

I don't see any reason to upgrade my socket since AM3+ is the 2nd best socket AMD have developed for normal ATX-motherboards (for what I can find out on the net).
The CPU itself (Phenom II x6 1100T) is not the best for this platform at all, i know, but it is more than enough for running games like BF3, Crisis 3 and Far Cry 3 when not OC'ed
