My system:
FX-6300 @ 4,6 Ghz
Saphhire R9 270
8 GB Kingmax 1333 Mhz
Seagate Barracude 1 TB 7200 rpm
SAGA II 550W power supply

aaand the ASUS M5A97 R2.0

im not getting the expected performance so far.. i mean i saw a guy on yt with the same cpu @ gpu in crysis 3 in very high getting 40-70 fps im barely getting 40 in high and its also not smooth. CS:GO has relatievly low fps with huge drops and laggy gameplay. however bf3 ran relatievly well.

-all drivers up to date
-freshest bios
-temps are good (cpu about 55° gpu 57-58° while gaming)
-hard drive and psu are working fine

all i can think about now that the old 970 chipset somehow holds me back from getting the performance i should be. what are your thoughts?

My Years of Experience with Motherboards
The Cheap Nasty Motherboards Vrs Mid Range MB Vrs Top Line Motherboards as follows

Budget MB -10% Performance
Mid Range MB - Standard
High End MB + 6% Performance

These stats do vary, but this is a typical reference that I have personally experienced
Chip sets do matter, Quality does matter, Bang for Buck is your choice

For just 30% more cost on a MB = 10% performance
When it costing another 220%+ costs for top Motherboards is it value for money?

Budget Boards - Lack USB ports, limited Ram slots and sata ports / i/o ports
Mid Range - Good Starting point as they cover a good range of support and options Sli, Raid, 7.1+ sound etc
Top Range - have all the bells and whistles and things average users will never use

Not getting into a Debate on what MB or chip set is better this is just a quick general Reference - that to do indeed get what you pay for when it comes to motherboards and almost every related computer part.

nice summary :)
do you think its possible that the fx processors doesnt work perfectly with the 970 chipset?

As a Rule if it designed for the processor it should work with out issues - sometimes manufactures release bios updates to extend CPU support

Reviews on your Mother board Rate very well (quick google search)
You have a excellent Mid range+ MB I would say a top end MB would only give maybe 3-5% better performance

Ram Speed/Size is irrelevant for FPS - measurable speed may attribute 1-3 FPS at best.

As already Noted if you Video card is not getting enough Power it will down clock and run at slow speeds
The R9 Series GFX Cards Require a LOT of POWER.

thank you really useful :)

Power consumption Radeon R9-270

System in IDLE = 121W
System Wattage with GPU in FULL Stress = 254W
Difference (GPU load) = 133W
Add average IDLE wattage ~10W
Subjective obtained GPU power consumption = ~ 143 Watts

The R9-290X is almost double this power usage

All higher end GFX card Need a Stable High end PSU
Your Card is on the Mid range End of Power Requirements in theory a 550w PSU should cope

But since its Not a Bronze Certified PSU it does question the true actual consistency of power output for a Mid high end GFX Card and system

The FX-6300 is 102w idle and 227w stressed

CPU 227W
GFX 254W
MB/Ram/HDD/CDrom/Cooling etc...34W+

Meaning your Using over 500 Watts at peak so this budget non certified PSU is not providing consistent power requirements for your needs

so isnt it supposed to cause bsod, freezes, artifacts instead of lower performance in some games?

Can do on some older cards

I will assume you have connected the Extra power to your motherboard Beside the main 24 pin cable there should be a 4/8 power also connected... http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems

Most new GFX Cards if you don't connect the Extra Power required will run in power saving mode meaning you get low fps

If your GFX card does not get the expected power from the extra plugs it automatically drops into power saving mode.

Also I assume your overclocking you CPU as it running higher at 4.6ghz and not the standard 3.5/4.1 turbo so you will be using extra power to achieve this and likely have a cooling system drawing extra power to cool it

BSOD, Freezes and Artifacts are typical when the GPU starts to fault by becoming unstable usually by either by overheating or incorrect clock frequency, usually caused by Overclocking.
Driver Issues can also cause these issues

Driver Settings & Game settings and Detail Setting will also effect FPS greatly

Some options Like Shadow Detail can greatly effect FPS
Tripple Buffering will smooth out jerky Frames
Vsync will stop screen tearing (usually)
etc
lots of options to play with and some games implement these extra details poorly in coding so what works well on 1 GFX card will work Rubbish on another

Hence why for Expample NVidia have introduced 'Geforce Experience' to address this issue for people that are not tech savvy with there GFX Card settings

Try this out see if it helps... If it does not well Scroll up to the First post and read it again.

wow i accidently clicked on the solution thing lol
but anyways yes i know i have to plug the motherboard pin and if i lower the video settings in a game i have more fps... but thanks.

how? >.<
btw i choose this psu because the one you linked isnt available here in my country:
http://www.fsplifestyle.com/product.php?LID=1&PSN=380#
do you think this will do the job?

i cant see the link please post the name of the psu and the wattage and i will let you know.. and just simply click the unselect button under the name post that has the big green thing around it and then click the solution that helped you out the most

FPS RAIDER 550W its silver 80+

ok kool it seems like a decent enough its good.. just remeber the psu that you get must be certified and on the tier list at tier 3 and above .. btw remember to select the solution to the question so others can be helped

A HDD with 7 Bad Sectors - If your hard drive keeps marking New bad sectors then yes it failing and may be causing some lag issues

Personally I would be replacing any Primary Drive that has bad sectors

A Bad or Slow HDD Will NOT Affect FPS - If will Affect load times, Lag issues meaning Load time Game Pausing when its caching to HDD.

As already Discussed your PSU is near or Over its limit
Your CPU Clock speeds suggest overclocking

Lets try Lower The load a Little on your system - As a Test only:
Unplug all perennials you don't need - All extra usb devices
Unplug internal DVD Drive
Any anything else you can think of that is not essential to (test) play your Games

I Would also Take note of the current stable overclock setting of your CPU/ram/etc (Record them) Export Bios - Save to File
Set MB Settings to Normal - so your Not overclocking
Re-test your Games

Did you get that new MB? Did it make any difference?

so its not the hdd. its still kinda fast so if the bad sectors not affect anything i can live with it.

i dont really have anything connected, no dvd drive and extra usb, just my case fans but i had the same problem before i bought them so it wouldnt make sense.

yes i got the new motherboard it definetly gave me some boost but didnt solve the problem.

yesterday i checked the gpu & cpu usage in some games. i found out that in cs:go (where i have very bad performance) the gpu usage is about 35%! in battlefield 3 its about 80% but the weird thing is, if a look into a corner or a place where nothing happens my gpu usage goes up to 99% but when i look at huge opened areas with lot of people shooting it drops down to 75-80. same in l4d2 its about 80 in room and 65 in the street with a lot of zombies. i also realized that if i lower the graphics i dont really get more frames just lower gpu usage. cpu usage is still lower than it should be.

i found this guy on youtube. my problem is very similar / even the same. he couldnt find any solution except buying an intel rig...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aq9dSLOElX4

ps.: i dont think its the psu. a read about and everyone said if the psu dont give enough power the pc will randomly turn off has blue screens or even wont turn on. one of my friends who works with hardwares told me that its definetly not a psu issue.

Interesting.

Experiment with Each in-game Video Setting individually, At Lowest (or Off) to (max) Highest Setting (start with Shadow Detail, Particle Detail, Lighting Flare) - its possible that one of these settings is very badly coded and not working well with your drivers or hardware.

Last Note on PSU. Refer: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Everything-You-Need-to-Know-About-Power-Supplies/181/8
and the Next Page also... (I will not mention PSU again in this thread)

doesnt make sense if i lower the graphics i get a little more frames and less gpu usage as i mentioned before. what do you think about the guys problem that i linked?
