After getting lucky and finding a half built pc thrown out i am finally motivated to buy a GPU to go with the asus p8z68-v LX. The card i want to buy is a Gtx 970 as it will only cost me around 400 AUD.
The problem is, i don't know a lot about the motherboard and i am not quite sure if it will be compatible with the graphics card i want to buy.

specs:
Intel i7 2700k
asus p8z68-v lx
corsair vengence 8gb ddr3
550w psu

Solution
It has the slot for the GPU. The core may be slow for the GPU, but if it has an aftermarket cooler (or you buy one) you can overclock for some extra performance. Also, make sure the psu is a good brand. Don't want to hurt a nice new card.

Thanks for the fast response, the cpu is clocked at 3.5 ghz running 8 cores but the previous owner also threw out a coolermaster hyper 212 evo with it so i should be able to get at least 4 ghz. I will make sure i buy a good power supply.

Question to the original poster. Was the graphics card compatible with the mobo you have? I have the same mobo so i was wondering since i was thinking about getting the same gfx card.
