Question What is happening to my monitor?

Been having a problem I don't know how to explain other than pixels getting glitchy and not displaying anything. Think a bit like TV noise but it's all horizontal. After a minute or so it goes away, and only returns after the monitor has been off for a long time, like at work or sleeping at night.

Anybody on here know whats causing this or better yet, what the problem is called?
For context, this is an MSI Optix G27C2 curved 144hz monitor that I bought third-hand. I'm plugged in with DP, running an RX 6700XT, just moved from a 2070 Super 'cause I thought the GPU was the issue. Its not.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Have you tried changing display cables? If the issue happens on your monitor regardless of what the display output source is or on a donor platform, then the issue is your monitor.

So RMA'ing is out of the question? If so, then you're out of luck as repairing the daughterboard might be tricky or a replacement monitor is cheaper.

Yeah, RMA doesn't seem like a possibility. This issue has only been happening in the last few months, and I only have the one DP cable. Jiggling the cable while the issue is manifesting doesn't change anything either, nor does replugging it. I can try testing it on different refresh rates and through an HDMI but that will take quite a while. Also FWIW I game VERY frequently, about 10 or more hours a day. May have just burnt it out with usage?

that good sir is caused by the refresh rate going bonkers try dropping it to 120 or 100 see if it persists.

other things corrupt gpu driver.

not properly seated gpu cable to the back of the pc due to metal on pc case not allowing gpu cable to sit flush. ( happens with cheap cases exibit a).

in picture above only way to remedy that is to loosen the gpu from back and adjust the card gently till it doesnt interfere best to do it on the cases side not while its standing upright.

Some good troubleshooting steps here. My case is a Corsair Carbide, so it's not a poor quality case causing this. It can't be the cable seating, as that has changed a few times, what with replacing the GPU. Couldn't be the GPU to PCI seating either because again, changed GPU. The refresh rate, I'll try setting it to 120. You just reminded me that my ex-friend (the person that had it last) mentioned 144 being glitchy, but I had tested it and found nothing. Perhaps it really is kinda borked?

Good insights here, I'll report back after I've lowered the refresh rate

monitors fail over time and some failed in botched not hitting right framerate.

make sure you drivers are clean even use ddu

turn of free sync off or turn it on.

if using nvidia gpu turn it on in nvidia graphics control panel gsync.

double check its using the full specs of the monitor either

RGB or YCbCr422 depending on spectrum of your monitor.

one thing i learned about msi stuff is its either glitched or half broken out the gate.

First off, I'm not using Nvidia as stated in the OP. I recently switched to AMD.
Can't be drivers, as this issue has persisted through multiple driver updates.
Free sync has been off since I tried it once I got it, didn't notice any positive difference so I've left it off after about a days worth of testing.
Could just be that this monitor is nearing end-of-life, too many on hours and power cycles.. Just today it started having some brightness flickering when nothing was changing on-screen.

only way to test it would to plug the pc directly into tv or other monitor and see if issues persists.

im about 85 percent sure its a monitor issues as ive seen other posts similar of msi monitors dieing like this

monitor brands ive had success with are phillips/lg/hp suprisingly is quite good.

I take it from the comments that this display is rather old? If so it's probably as you suspect, it's had its day in the sun. I had a couple Acer displays for a little over 10 years, one of them started doing this exact same thing. I have since replaced them and passed them on to my eldest offspring. That said, a year and a half later they still persist, the one flaking out for a few minutes at startup then clearing up. So, replace it if you want, and if you're in the States I'd suggest jumping on it before the tariffs hit the supply chain.

Well, shit.
At least it still works for the mean time, hopefully it continues to work as I have little interest in shelling out hundreds for another 144Hz monitor. I've checked Marketplace, eBay, Amazon, CL, all of it for replacements but they are either too expensive, not working or not what I'm looking for.
Thanks for the input guys, guess it's just toast now.
