motherboard compatibility query

my motherboard has a 3.0 gbps sata port and i am wondering if i buy a western digital hard disk (not a ssd) with 6.0 gbps connector will it work or will i be facing an compatibility issue...i need to know this before i buy it

I think all sata ports are backward compatible so it should be okay

It will work just fine. It will just slow down to SATA II speed, but no other problems.
