Motherboard connection to hard drive connection compatability

I have a msi p55 gd65 motherboard and im looking to buy a hard drive but from what I read it says it supports ide hard Drives but I’m not sure what exactly to get because I already a SATA cable but I’m not sure if it supports it

You don't have a problem. The manual for that mobo from here

says it does have one IDE port PLUS six SATAII (now called SATA 3Gb/s) ports, plus a couple others. So, while you could use an IDE device if you had one, you have lots of places to connect SATA devices.
