you have to determine the manufacturer of the board, and the specific model. Other details help like the socket, chipset and memory type. There is usually some type of identifier on the board like the model, maybe a number or a sticker. If nothing else, take a decent picture (not a cell phone pic) and post it.

It is similar to going to an auto parts store, and asking for an "oil filter" and they will ask you what kind of car it is, what model and what year it was made so they can pull out the correct type of filter since there are many.
