Noticed the other day a USB disconnect sound, went to check on device manager and saw "Etron USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0 (Microsoft)" had a yellow warning.

Same happened with my PCIe wifi card and COM port, tho not always, but USB is consistent in failing.

I fully cleaned this PC and put a new CMOS battery some months ago, and after some time this issue appeared again.

Also on HWMonitor the CPUTIN stops reading/working after this, if I have HWmonitor open the reading goes to a static 123ºC, but it won't show up if I close and reopen the software.

It appears that leaving the computer to idle some time after this happens, all the temperature sensors of the board show a 0ºC as minimum.

CPU: AMD FX-8350
GPU: AMD Sapphire NITRO+ RX 590
RAM: 16GB G.SKILL TridentX 2400mhz DDR3 XMP enabled
Motherboard: Asrock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer
PSU: Enermax REVOLUTION87+ 850W

Any ideas? I'm worried because my VRM's normally throttle at 85ºC, when this happens they continue climbing without control (I measure this with an outside sensor)

No spare hardware, I can try reseating the CPU again and a clean Windows install

This can happen right away of starting the computer, or working "fine" for almost a day

What BIOS version are you on for your motherboard?

PSU: Enermax REVOLUTION87+ 850W
How old is the PSU in your build?

What OS are you working with?

and a clean Windows install
Where did you source the installer for the OS?

What BIOS version are you on for your motherboard?
P1.60

How old is the PSU in your build?
Around 11 years

What OS are you working with?
Windows 10 pro

Where did you source the installer for the OS?

Microsoft

I never had any issues with this system, after the summer this started, I did a full clean of the system removing everything, putting a new CMOS battery because the old one had 2,4v, and I guess I was lucky to work 3 more months with all apparently working ok again

This is a very strange, and finicky thing, I cannot make this happen, it just “happens”

I know this hardware is old, but there's no money for a new one, and I'm just gonna keep kinda of a record of how things go here

Right now I decided to remove the XMP, for almost 10 years my rams and cpu/nb run at 2400mhz, activating XMP did put my CPU/NB with 1.4v automatically, so I have some suspicions on that. Let's see if it “works”, will lose the performance but at least it endures some more time

CPU/NB at 2200mhz 1.17V and ram at 1333mhz 1.5v (1.6v with xmp) - all purely at stock now
