Hey guys.
I'm planning on a build and have a few questions.
The board is a Asus Maximus 8 Hero. In my build I will have 8 Fans.
2x intake, 3x exhaust, 1x bottom intake, and 2x Noctua cpu cooler.
According to Asus's site the board comes with:
4 x Chassis Fan connector(s) (4 -pin)
1 x CPU Fan connector(s) (4 -pin)
1 x CPU OPT Fan connector(s) (4 -pin)
My question is, If i use a Y cable to connect the noctua cooler to the Cpu fan header, can i use the OPT fan connector as a regular fan header for the top exhaust fan?

Solution
Cpu: Y - cpu_fan
Rear exhaust: sys_fan 4
Top exhaust x2: Y - sys_fan 1
Front intake x2: Y - sys_fan 2
Bottom intake: sys_fan 3

Don't bother with cpu_opt, even though you'll have control on that board. You'll want to keep pairs of fans together on the same header, makes for better airflow when 1 fan isn't overpowering the one next to it.
you can certainly plug whatever fan you want into any of the headers. However the BIOS may be locking that header to how hot the CPU is. So you could have a single fan spin faster than the others simply because the CPU is hot and the BIOS is trying to cool it down.

Possibly not though as some BIOS allow great individual control over the headers.

Hey, I know i'm replying to this pretty late but I just have one question. If I connect the fans the way you suggested will it damage the motherboard in any way? The fans I will be using are the Noctua Industrial PPC 2000 PWM.
Thanks
