[SOLVED] Motherboard fan headers

Hi,
I am getting parts together for my first pc build and I get stumped searching for answers lately.
So far purchased are:

CORSAIR Carbide 270R

GIGABYTE Z390 Gaming SLI

Intel i7 8700k

Noctua NH-D15S

G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000

SAMSUNG 860 EVO Series M.2 2280 500GB

EVGA Supernova 650 G3, 80 Plus Gold

filter for top and front of case.

GPU WILL BE ADDED ON LATER,


For now I am looking for 2 x 140mm fans for the front and 2 x 120mm for the roof and leave the existing rear fan as is. I not sure but I think the mobo has (5) 4-pin headers? One of those may be for the CPU cooler? Does this seem correct? Will I need at least one splitter or no?
I have looked at the corsair ml fans but I have no experience with any fans, suggestions?
I'm fairly new to all this and my aim is to keep it simple. Not considering liquid cooling at this time.

What do you mean by "think", it's all in the manual. CPU_FAN and auxiliary beside it (if it exists) are for CPU cooler only. the rest can be used for other fans and if you don't have enough connectors you could use Y splitters to have pair o fans at one connector.
Specs say:
1 x CPU fan header
1 x water cooling CPU fan header
2 x system fan headers
1 x system fan/water cooling pump header

In pinch you can also use water cooling (pump) headers too.

I would recommend avoiding the ML series because the bearings can be destroyed if bios isn't set up right.

You are correct about the board only having 5 headers. You will need at least 1 x two-way splitter to cover the 6 total fans. I would recommend the Be Quiet Silent Wings 3 high speed PWM for your case, but Noctua fans are worth considering as well. Use the splitter on the header labeled "SYS_FAN3_PUMP", as this port is able to provide more current to the fans than other fan headers on the board.

I think you used the wrong manual, as there are only 5 fan headers on the board mentioned. I triple checked to be sure. Also, the CPU_OPT header on Gigabyte boards is not special in any way. It's just a normal header with a different name. The Pump header is a normal header with beefier power circuitry, and is often the best choice for splitters, should you need them.

That's the right one, but I can't find the 6th port you mentioned. There are the two to the right of the CPU, one by the EPS, one by the USB 3.0 header, and one by F_PANEL.

Where is the 6th?
