Motherboard fault or Graphic card??

Hello guys how are you? There is something wrong with my graphic card or motherboard. At one day i powered it on and i received this image on my LCD and it remained like that until i did hard reset. What was it caused from?

Another thing i was playing Sim City 2014 and left the game running and turned off the LCD because i needed to do some work and after a hour or 2 i came back and found the screen to be like this.

Another thing whenever i turn on my computer there are white lines going across the screen and doesnt seem to stop i tried to take picture of it too but those lines are not being shown in the picture since i dont have a nice camera but i hope you will understand what i am talking about. And whenever i remove my graphic card and connect the lcd to the motherboards vga i no more get the white lines.

My specs are:
Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz
3 GB DDR2 Ram
Radeon R7 250 DDR3 2GB

Could this mean my graphic card is faulty or is this motherboard because recently my motherboard having problems it do not read DVD Roms no matter what. I have SATA and IDE both slots present in my motherboard when i use SATA dvd rom computer hangs after reading a disc a while and when i use IDE dvd rom it does not detect it and sometimes when it detects the dvd rom but does the same thing as sata dvd rom.

Thanks in advance. Hope you guys help. I am stuck between deciding whether it is Motherboard or the Graphic card. I can't figure out i dont have a extra motherboard to check things on.

Replace Video card.

Try removing the video card and using the integrated graphics to see if the problem persists, if it does it'll be the GPU

In terms of the DVD-ROMs not reading, depending on the age of the system you're optical drive or motherboard could also be developing faults of their own

So sorry for not responding my tomshardware extension in chrome stopped sending me notifications and here was i thinking that this dilemma is not being answered. So you guys think it is the graphic card i though of that first too but can't it be the motherboard since it stopped reading the DVD rom there was one other problem with it i cant remember now so there could be a problem with the pci-e slot. My only problem is i don't have a spare card.

My money is on the Video card needs to be replaced, and the dvd rom is bad. DVD drives go bad all the time. Could be a driver issue but for 12$ or so just replace the drive.

Ok what I would suggest is finding a friend with a PC which you can test a couple of the DVD ROM drives on, as well as your GPU just in case. I would have said the GPU is dead, but the bad optical drives are leaning me towards a motherboard fault, although both your GPU and Motherboard could be dying which is, above all, seriously unlucky

5 Really?... Not so sound harsh here but since it is a core 2 duo. I would honestly contemplate looking into building a new computer to be honest. instead of just throwing parts at it.

If you can afford it then a new might be a good idea, but if not then by testing the parts as I said earlier, we can diagnose the issues

Already tried it my dvd rom is working on his PC but not in mine. This was the only thing that lead me to the motherboard else i was sure on the graphic card. And about upgrading i haven't got the budget. I still got my graphic card under warranty but i want to be sure before sending it. Another i have IDE and SATA options in my motherboard and both did the same thing i mean were not working so this also reduce the chance of bad sata port.

Starting to lean towards the motherboard myself, but like I said earlier the GPU could still be faulty, test it on another mobo if you can

And if i went to shop they will charge and return to me after cutting the money saying everything is fine since these problems only come so often. My dilemma is seriously one messed up one.

I would take your card to a local computer shop, see if they have a test machine, and see what happens if they do.

Just out of curiosity, where do you live?

Where i live is better not told and i have already given the card to the shop and like i have said the problem appears in certain conditions like when i am doing heavy gaming, randomly at bootup and white lines are always there. When i gave him the card remember i am only talking about the card here not the whole PC there were no white lines atleast i couldn't see them on his test machine but i have a black background which helps me see the lines as opposed the test machine which had a bright wallpaper. Like i said there could be white lines there or not. This should rule out the card but in this matter graphic card is having more points of trouble than motherboard.

Gotta be honest, you sound like you've tried everything. I would definitely suggest a motherboard upgrade, which would constitute a CPU upgrade if you change chipset. To be honest, the Pentium G3258 sounds like it might just be what you need with a cheap Z97 motherboard. I'm suggesting this as I'm unsure where you would find a new motherboard to fit your CPU. This should solve your drive issues and it COULD solve your GPU issue. Plus, with the G3258 being unlocked, you could overclock it on the new motherboard if it starts to bottleneck any new graphics card.

I have had another thought though, and it's a complete long shot, but have you checked to see if the monitor is the issue? I know you said you tried integrated graphics and the monitor worked fine, and if you specified that both the GPU and motherboard used the same port on the monitor then I'd think the monitor was ok, but since I don't have this info, I'm gonna just check it.

xD well that's what i did tried all the troubleshooting steps i can to find out the culprit and i ended up having to choose either the motherboard or the graphic card. And like i said upgrade is out of question because i won't be having budget in like another year. I will see what i can do about spare motherboard. Will post back within a week or so with my problem solved hopefully.
