so i bought my gpu rx 5500 xt few years ago and its gotten old and having problems running heavy games the only reason it was usable until now was because the rest of my hardware is better so im using
gpu: amd rx 5500 xt
cpu: amd ryzen 5600
motherboard: GIGABYTE B550M DS3H
and i have 550 psu
so i though about getting the rtx 4060 because it can run ray tracing with good fps and i play games like cyberpunk and elden ring however people are saying the because of the 8 vram its not worth it and i should go with amd like rx 7600 but i really dont know because the prices are not that different and the 4060 has ray tracing and lower power consumption.
what should i go for?

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

and i have 550 psu
550 is the advertised wattage of the unit. What is the make and model of the PSU? You might want to look at the RTX4060 Ti or the RTX4070 if you intend to game at 1080p high refresh rate. What sort of games do you tax your system with, at what resolution and refresh rate?

Where are you located and what sort of a budget have you set aside for a GPU purchase? Speaking of which, if you're not located in the USA, what is your preferred site for purchase?

alright so i have a budget of about 300$. about where im from im not from the us and i dont really have stores next to my place so i will buy it from amazon, which has a free shipping however there is still a tax but its alright its cheaper than buying from stores . so when playing games that have a good quality like cyberpunk, im using the max settings and always at 144 hz however i dont use amd sharpening or things like that and for example in cyberpunk im averaging like 35-40 fps at max settings. about my psu i was mistaken i have a corsair rm650 so my psu is 650 which is higher than what i thought.

If you’re on the budget end of the spectrum, I think I’d look to see if you can get an Intel arc b570 or b580. Those have extra vram compared to the other cards you mentioned and thus should age better I feel.

The driver overhead issues of Intel's newest arc series I would say make them a bad idea, until Intel can get a fix in place for it. I was seriously considering one for my AMD rig, to replace its flaky 980ti, until Hardware Canucks discovered the issue, and Hardware Unboxed dove deeper into it. Even an R5 5600 was seeing issues, in HUB's analysis. My 3700x would be even worse off. 🙁

OP, I would also consider RX 6700xt/6750xt if those are available to you. Much better buy than a 7600 or a 4060.

alot of people have told me that the rx 6700 xt is better than than the 4060 but i dont really get why, is it the vram? except for that the 4060 seems better in terms of handling better quality because its capable of running path tracing or ray tracing in a higher fps. i might be missing something so idk

The 6700xt is a generation older than the 4060, but it was also a tier above it as well. In other words, the 6700xt was faster mostly than the rtx 3060 from nvidia, which was close to the 4060 in performance.

Kind of like if you bought a car a year older but got a Chevy equinox instead of a trailblazer.
