Motherboard for i7 4790k

Hi,
1) I would recommend something more like THIS for value board with reasonable overclocking:
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-z97a

2) I don't recommend more than 4.7GHz. In fact, I highly recommend sticking with the default 4.4GHz Turbo. Overclocking further makes almost NO difference for any game, and minimal difference to most other tasks.

In the best case scenario you're likely speeding up video conversion by about 4% by going with 4.7GHz but for this you need a much better cooler and will also run the CPU hotter (since you disable the optimal Intel Power Management profile).

3) CPU cooler??
If you still plan to overclock heavily look into a quality Liquid cooler. I recommend one that can drop FAN NOISE below 25dB on the low end.

For staying with 4.4GHz I recommend the Noctua NH-U12S which will be SILENT in idle (300RPM if fan profile optimized) and very quiet still under load. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/noctua-cpu-cooler-nhu12s

The NOCTUA has a few advantages (at 4.4GHz):
- quieter especially in idle
- far more reliable. In fact, even if fan broke it would still run fairly well (in liquid cooling pump or other component can fail rendering PC unusable)

More info:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/06/30/review_intel_devils_canyon_cpu/

"The fastest speed I could get my example to run without it fighting back with BSODs was 4.7GHz."

But...
4.7/4.4 means about a max 6.8% boost in performance assuming that the frequency increase can be fully utilized which is unlikely even for video editing. As I said above, essentially NO BENEFIT for gaming and perhaps 4% time savings for converting video.

For this small benefit you need a better CPU Cooler, and again you will disable the Intel Power Management profile that keeps the Turbo 4.4GHz very optimized.

Just so you've got the information to make an educated decision. So again, my advice is:

a) i7-4790K @ default 4.4GHz (and "XMP" enabled in BIOS)
b) Asus Z97-A
c) Noctua NH-U12S (and optimize Asus fan software... i.e. 20% max RPM until 45degC then ramp up)

Cheers. I'm done.

Update:
Asus Z97-A review (9.4/10)

"ASUS has really outdone themselves with the Z97-A... You should buy this board, RIGHT NOW!!"

i agree don't go over 4.4 you really don't need it and your CPU will last longer if you don't and be more stable.
and go with the water cooler i told you. Air cooling is not for Overclocking no matter how good the Air cooler is.

And i would't go with the Asus Z97-A motherboard because they don't even say how much gold is in the CPU

the 2 motherboards that i told you both have 15µGold Contact

I use a Gigabyte Z97X Gaming GT motherboard, Coolermaster Hyper D62 (push pull fans) and a case with EXCELLENT airflow to get 4.7GHz at 1.27V

That is a .7/4.0 = 17.5% speed up,which IS significant

Note that the 4790K regular speed is 4.0GHZ, the "Turbo" mode of 4.4GHz is ONLY for very light cpu loads (like checking your email), and I believe 1 core only

i am going to load the cpu for like 70% 24/7 and i am already planning to buy CoolerMaster Nepton 280L
also these are the following mobos i can get
GA-Z97N-WIFI $139

i dont want to waste too much money on the motherbaord no need crossfire and this stuff i just need a motherboard that will allow my cpu to get oced to 4.7-5ghz and to have 4 ram slots
there pc is more for vmwares loads a lot of them and gaming too but its more for the vmwares
how is the GA-Z97X-SLI
i need a answer fast before the shop get closed in like 2 hours

I already gave you the answer in your original thread.
http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2668585/4790k-mobo.html

So this thread is more of a duplicate one. Your requirement is "going to load the cpu for like 70% 24/7"

Get the "Black Edition" board from Gigabyte, which ideal for your purpose. In your original thread I suggested "GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK $210". Since you don't want to spend that much consider this "GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK $169". For 24/7 operation getting a board that has passed 168hrs server like brutal performance and endurance testing makes more sense.

About the Black Edition Boards:
- GIGABYTE Black Edition motherboards undergo an extra 168 hours (7 days) of stress testing before shipment to ensure premium quality for our customers.
- During the 168 hour test, each motherboard needs to pass rigorous, full system validation testing for 1 full week. GIGABYTE has built a custom testing facility at our Taiwan (Nanping) factory.
- A Certificate of Validation is included with every board, issued by the GIGABYTE factory and signed by the manufacturing VP & GM to indicate that each board has passed our highest test standards.
- Comes with unmatched 5 years warranty.
